I am shocked and saddened by the death of our beloved Mrs.Alagaratnam teacher. She was my mother’s friend and she was like a second mother to me. She was the one who got the admission for me at St. John Bosco, and convinced my parents to send me to the best primary school in Jaffna, even though it was too far from my home. This was a big step in my life, allowing me to receive the best possible education from the dedicated teachers. She would tell me numerous stories about morals and even her own life experiences during my stay with her, after school, stories that would still resonate with me even today. Her love, compassion and wisdom were all instrumental in helping me becoming the person I am today. She touched so many hearts during her lifetime. I pray to God for her beautiful soul to rest in peace. She will continue to live in the hearts of all of her loving students

Very lovely tributes to Mano Aunty!
Mano aunty was a sister to my mother and she adored my grandparents. In fact my grandparents were very keen that Mano Aunty bought the land behind my aunt’s house. She bought the land and built a house and we became neighbours.
Lot of memories has gone into her new house and old house she lived before. Old home had many of her her married pictures and her husband looked a very handsome. After my mother lost her parents, Mano aunty would drop-in to see my mother every evening after school. That was a big thing for both, basically talked about us children, and their school days, etc.
Whenever I see her, I must greet her by saying good morning or good evening. She was that we do greet her in English. Being an English teacher, generally my mum and aunty converse in English.
Aunty was in charge of my grandfather’s 31st day cooking and she really cooked a lovely meal. She also did the cooking when my grandma passed away as well. For us she was one of our family members.
It is sad I have not seen her since 1987. My aunties and my sister Tharani had the pleasure of meeting her in 2015. I spoke to her on the phone once that time.
We will remember her always as she was very close to our family.
May her soul rest in peace.
